Warp WorlEDH

Well the long sought day has finally come. I have found my signature 5color card, and it is none other then Warp World. I have been in the process of retooling my deck to accommodate this adjustment. The current deck list can be found here . DoMT has now become a story of three decks. There is two fully functional EDH/Commander decks shuffled with 100 fill in cards. Each of the stand alone decks has it's own sleeve color, to allow for easy pull out and separate play. The final 100 is split into two sleeve groups, one for "non-EDH consideration" cards, and the other for everything else. My hope is, this will make the EDH fine tuning process easier, so I don't have to look up card legality on the fly. Items removed since my last posting: Not all of these are gone forever. Many simply represent their current usage in a more vital deck, or have been bumped to test new interactions. Arid Mesa Benediction of Moons Berserk Brawn Brion Stoutarm Civic Wayfinder Co...

Grim Tidings #25 - Kiki Jiki, the Elder Dragon?

I hinted a few weeks ago I added some new Scars of Mirrodin cards to my EDH decks, one of which being Kiki Jiki, the Mirror Breaker . Kiki is a lovely card, but he has an incredibly R-R-Red casting cost, making him somewhat difficult to cast both in EDH and other casual “Big Deck" formats. Additionally, he’s mono -red , meaning that for EDH, he forces your entire deck to be mono-red. I’ve found that mono-red is generally pretty weak in terms of card drawing, enchantment removal, and sustainability (All of which are fairly important at any casual table). That didn’t stop me though. Instead of steering elsewhere, I decided to focus on Red’s strengths, rather than weaknesses, and jam pack them into a powerhouse EDH deck designed to execute a very aggressive agenda based come-into-play abilities and mana denial. First off, let’s review my decklist: Kiki Jiki, EDH Red Creatures(24) 1 Kiki Jiki, Mirror Breaker 1 Anger 1 Arc-Slogger 1 Avalanche Riders 1 Bogardan Hellkite 1 Changeling B...

My Life in the Zoo: Making the Switch

One of the primary reason I choose Zoo as my entry point into Legacy, is the fact that it is an ever present deck in every format, and converts easily back and forth. I've recently been giving some thought to Standard, and seeing what it would take to make this deck viable for Standard. I found a very interesting deck list , which puts me nearly there. The fetchland selection really don't make much sense here, unless you are simply that afraid of Pithing Needle? I think Arid Mesa makes a lot more sense then most in the list. From this revised list I would need only the following; Knight of the Reliquary Ranger of Eos x2 Honestly $20 for three cards is a lot, but getting back into Standard is a worth wild goal, and I expect I'd be able to pick these up in trade, so no cash outlay would be required. This deck would be viable in Standard for roughly another 10 months, so I should be able to get some good use out of it. These cards also convert nicely into Extended, alth...

Zendikar, EDH and You

Several of the spoiled cards so far have caught a lot of excitement for players of all varieties of sanctioned tournaments – Standard, Extended, Legacy, even Vintage. But not much has been said yet about the un-sanctioned formats – 5color/250, EDH. Since I don’t play 5color/250, I won’t go into that too terribly much. My focus today is going to be on what cards excite me for EDH. While I’m probably biased towards my own deck (meaning I’m more excited about Green, White and Blue stuff) I’ll try and comment on the Red and Black stuff as well. Bear in mind, that while I’m focusing on EDH, several of these cards may overlap with your ideas for 5color/250, or even your ideas for Standard/Extended/etc etc. Also, while I could try and rank them in terms of excitement, because I’m lazy, I’m going to stick with going straight down the spoiler list – which means we’ll be going in WUBRG order. Jedi Mind Tricks #2: The Rise and Fail of Uril, the Miststalker

(Contributed by Jed Humphries) Choosing the General When I first heard that there were going to be pick-up events for EDH (Elder Dragon Highlander) at Gencon 2009, I decided I wanted to step into the EDHpool. Pastime Games (the company running all the Wizards events at Gencon) announced this around the time Conflux came out, so I immediately starting looking for generals around Alara block. Two generals immediately stood out: Sharuum, the Hegemon and Uril the Miststalker. I discovered early on with my Sharuum deck research that I didn’t have all the artifact shenanigans cards to run this deck, and I didn’t want to drop a lot of money on them, so I abandoned Sharuum. Building the Deck I started by research for the Uril deck. I thought that Uril was one of the best generals out there, since he had good shroud, got bigger for each aura attached to him and was a 5/5, all for 5. I saw a few different builds going on the internet. One of there had made a Saproling subtheme to their d...

Big Game Hunting: Tooth and Nail

Many of you out there may have recently become acquainted with my Deck of Many Things. I have wanted to write an article detailing the card choices in the deck, but have found it to be to large a task for one shot. Over the next few weeks, I intend to put out several articles discussing utility cards in the deck, and using them to discuss the contents of the deck in broader terms. One other the key functions of any deck this size is being able to search out particular answers for the current game state. This allows you to balance the power of the table, or allow you to take an advantage. Tooth and Nail is beyond question one of the most powerful creature search tools available to any Magic Arsenal. For an entwined 9 mana this spell allows you to search out any 2 creatures, and put them directly into play. This can be used for any two creatures in the deck, but for today, I am only going to talk about those with a converted casting cost of 5 or greater, since they make the best use of ...
