November in Review

One more month of 2009 slips away, and the end of the year approaches rapidly. Clicks on the site were down by roughly 25%, which I attribute primarily to seasonal fluctuation. Legacy appears to have taken root in the region, and SciFi Genre will be hosting there first sanctioned Legacy event this weekend. Already there is whispers of a 1K in the wind, but I think we will just have to wait and see.

Speaking of Major events, Pete and company made a huge announcement this month, putting roughly $200,000.00 in prize money on the line in 2010, and added an invitational event to the annual calendar.

I've also taken the liberty of adding a calendar function to the blog. The intention is to post information for the market regarding local, and US events. If you have infor about and event, please feel free to send it in. Oh, and the site had it's first hack, in the form of Chinese postings for, well, lets just say they weren't magic related.

and Now for Something Completely Different

Well, maybe not completely different. I often use this platform to talk about something I've heard related to Magic the Gathering . Today I'm going to talk about something I have heard more and more. Sometimes in life, media, and imagination somethings take on a life of their own, becoming more then sum of their parts, and reaching beyond the scope and measure of the seed thought which spawned them. Recently it has come to my attention that something as simple as a color, has done just that. We've come together today through the force and will of pink . For a year now this simple blending of red and white has brought people together from all across the globe, inspired and renewed friendships, shared hopes, dreams, and passions of individuals. It has in some small but measurable way, changed the world, and the people in it. I have thought that I was beyond the scope of this phenomenon, as beyond an impressive collection of scars, I really have nothing pink in my life. Let...

Grim Tidings #26: Flip-Flop

I think the majority of magic articles I write aren't very helpful. For the most part are a stream of self-congratulatory praise of how great my proven decks are. Sure, my cutting sarcasm and wit occasionally generate a chuckle (I still love the Chaos Orb piece) but for the most part, I they all smoosh together into a long wordy rant of why I think this-or-that card is so great and why you should play it too. It’s my own fault. I pretend that everyone who reads my ramblings knows who I am, and has the same preference in play style. I assume everyone plays Casual-Competitive Magic, that they all play 300 card 5-Color decks, highlander style, and they have access to all 10,000+ cards to randomly insert in Deck XYZ at any moment’s notice. Obviously this is untrue. The root of the problem may lie in my core deck: “First Reminder”.
